“Kindrie, I know I can’t speak for everyone but I think you are the best thing that’s happened to Penticton for aspiring artists. A huge thank you to you for taking the leap and wanting to teach others from your vast wealth of knowledge.”
Debby Merkel, Penticton, BC. Canada.
“Thanks, Kindrie, Looking at my painting today, I am really amazed that I did that in one day! I’ve always been afraid to try painting animals, but you are an excellent teacher, and now I will have more confidence to try more subjects.”
Ruth, Summerland, B.C. Canada
“Hi Kindrie Just wanted to show you my owls now they are done. Very much enjoyed your class and hope to see more of your beautiful work.”
Marilynn Lillies, Summerland, B.C. Canada.
“As always, seeing how you start out is a great help, for it broadens my perspective about what to look for. Your style of teaching is just right for me, especially that you share so willingly how you appraoch a subject to paint it, but leave each student with the freedom to find their own way in to a subject and develope it.”
Beth Weick, Penticton, BC. Canada.
“I love your gentle teaching style, always guiding, and allowing us to find our way- you are a natural teacher! I’ve learned so much- each class. I’m happy that we start classes on time. I like the mix of sometimes having a demonstration, sometimes an exercise and other times just painting the whole class.”
Debby Merkel, Penticton, BC. Canada, May 14, 2010
“The patient guidance and instruction I experienced during Kindrie’s Studio Sessions has been surreal. I 100% believe that Kindrie brings out the unique artist in everyone. From her simple yet thorough demonstrations, to her one-on-one critiques, Kindrie finds the perfect balance. I always look forward to painting, and I’ve learned so much in the process. I wouldn’t change a thing- thank you so much!”
Lauren Hatchard, Penticton, BC. Canada, April 28, 2010
“I have grown so much as an artist during the studio sessions. I ‘trusted’ your direction and was surprised at how it allowed me to move out of my comfort zone. I really enjoyed the exercises/ demos and tried to incorporate the learning into what I was doing. I think it is good to have 30 min at the start for learning theory/ technique and then try it out. I would like to try different media and styles. I was inspired by the support of Kindrie and the other students. I learned that I didn’t need to be technical with every stroke. I am trying to be more fluid in my painting.”
Julie-Ann Miller, Penticton, BC. Canada, April 27, 2010
“Kindrie— This year in your studio has been, for me, one of inspiration, encouragement and instruction, and I really can’t thank you enough for the whole experience. It has added dimension to my life that I have longed for but been blocked from finding.
I’ve looked forward to each session and been disappointed when I have to miss one. Monday in the studio became an important day of my week. Each of your demonstrations broadened my awareness and artistic scope, as I gradually absorbed the principles of using paint, colour, light and form.
What I found most helpful as I became more artistically confident, were the critiques we shared in the class. I liked the way it brought the group together, and how it taught us to talk about a piece of art. And of course, your comments and suggestions about people’s work were helpful to all of us. Our critical horizons were broadened, and our work enhanced.
What impressed me was how you were able to respond genuinely and encouragingly to each student, no matter what their artistic style nor their level of competence. It seems to me that each person developed in just the way they needed to. That is a rare accomplishment for a teacher!
Thanks for being so open about your own art. It was fun, and encouraging, to see that you were also ‘in process’ and to see how your own canvases reflected your exploration of new techniques.
I will now be able to continue with my own work, using my ‘new eyes’ and greater insight and I certainly look forward to other experiences with you.”
