Perspective, at the best of times in the studio, can slip away from us. Looking too long at a painting on an easel can turn our sense of proportion on it’s ear. Here are some things that may help: Try looking at your painting in a mirror to see it in reverse. It will instantly pop out any thing that needs work. Ask someone with fresh eyes to look at your painting, they may see things that you can’t. Try turning your painting upside down to check the symmetry and composition, and lastly, take a break. Come back in a day or so to see if your perceptions have changed. You may be pleasantly surprised or you may know exactly what you need to do. |
