“Hi Kindrie, Thanks so much for your critique – It’s so helpful.  I understand all your suggestions and am eager to rework Hares. I love working this way, so thank you so much for the ability to do this from a distance.  What a great service. Looking forward to more studio sessions in the spring!”

  • This is a great and vibrant colour drawing with chalk pastel. I love the warm reds that you have used as well as the hint at detail without putting everything in. It works especially well along the spin of the bottom book. Check your perspective on the bottom book though. It is wider at the back instead of the front. You may have to extend the spine of the book to the left in order to correct the lines. In terms of composition, you may find that by extending the book to the left it will improve the flow of the drawing.

Your cast shadows and reflected highlights are very well done and the warm yellow of the fore ground works well to set the books on a flat surface that appears to come towards us. You may consider lightening the colour a bit and then cooling it towards the back, behind the books. Try adding some of the pale blue-grey from the top right directly behind the top book. Just a touch though, to cool down the warmth of the ochre.

I would love to see a bit more intensity in the left front tomato to match the right one. You could also add a touch more dark directly under the tomatoes to deepen the shadows that they cast.

Over all it is a beautiful drawing and your colour choice is great. Very nicely done!
